YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) -- Brian Wingert made a 31-yard field goal
as time expired to give Northern Iowa a 22-20 victory over
Youngstown State on Saturday.
Northern Iowa (2-4, 1-2 Gateway Conference) led 19-7 in the
fourth quarter, but the Penguins surged back with two touchdowns.
The Panthers drove 58 yards in 11 plays, setting up Wingert's
winning kick, his third field goal in the game.
Youngstown State (2-5, 0-3) opened the scoring in the first
quarter, when Tom Zetts threw a 73-yard touchdown pass to Matt
Terrence Freeney completed an 80-yard drive with a 1-yard run in
the second quarter for Northern Iowa, but Wingert's kick was
blocked. Wingert made a 39-yard field goal to give the Panthers the
lead, 9-7, at the half.
Justin Surrency scored for Northern Iowa on a 39-yard pass from
Eric Sanders and Wingert hit from 26 yards out in the third period.
After Demetrius Ison scored from a yard out in the fourth
quarter, Aaron Marshall's run for a 2-point conversion was stopped
short. But Zetts found Mike Roberts on a 9-yard scoring pass, and
Nick Terracina's extra point gave the Penguins the lead with 3:53
