EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Big plays plus Cornell Brockington added up to a Big East Conference win for Connecticut.

The Huskies scored the game's first 24 points and Brockington rushed for 181 yards in a 45-31 victory over Temple.

Larry Taylor returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a score and Dan Orlovsky hit Jason Williams for a 90-yard touchdown pass just over three minutes later as Connecticut (5-2, 2-2 Big East) jumped out to a 14-0 lead.

Brockington scored the first of two TDs on a 61-yard run with 3:45 left in the opening quarter. He added a two-yard TD run with 3:25 to play in the third quarter to open a 38-10 cushion.

Temple (1-7, 0-3) scored 21 fourth-quarter points to make the score respectable. Walter Washington accounted for all four Temple TDs, rushing for scores in the second and fourth quarters and throwing for a pair in the last four minutes.

Washington completed 21-of-44 passes for 276 yards and was intercepted once. He added 84 rushing yards on 20 carries.

Orlovsky was 18-of-29 for 260 yards and threw an interception. Chris Bellamy added 76 yards rushing and a TD on 17 carries for the Huskies, who rolled up 518 yards of offense.
