Miss. Valley St. 15, Texas Southern 14

HOUSTON (AP) -- John Zdonek kicked a 40-yard field goal with four
seconds left to give Mississippi Valley State a 15-14 comeback win
over Texas Southern on Saturday.

Zdonek also hit two field goals from 37 yards in the second

Texas Southern jumped out to an early lead after John James
scored on runs of 38 and 32 yards in the first quarter. He finished
with 14 carries for 73 yards.

Zdonek's two field goals closed the gap to 14-6 for MVSU (2-6,
1-4 Southwestern Athletic) in the second.

Shang Moore caught an 80-yard TD pass from Curtis Kemp with 8:06
left to put MVSU within 14-12.

Moore had six receptions for 148 yards and Kemp was 9-of-18 for
165 yards.

It was a sloppy game, with MVSU fumbling seven times, losing
four and Texas Southern (0-7, 0-5) fumbling twice with one
turnover. MVSU had eight penalties for 148 yards and Texas Southern
was penalized nine times for 65 yards.

Texas Southern's Tino Edgecombe managed just 14 yards passing on
a 2-of-6 performance.
