LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) -- Morris Brothers scored two touchdowns
as part of a five-minute, 23-point outburst by Texas State in a
54-27 victory over McNeese State on Saturday night.
Texas State (4-4, 2-0 Southland) scored most of its points
following seven McNeese turnovers and a blocked punt.
McNeese (3-5, 0-2), winner of the last three Southland
Conference titles, fell behind 17-0 before rallying to tie the
score on John Marino's 41-yard field goal as time expired in the
second quarter.
But Texas State scored less than a minute into the second half
when Domino Giametta recovered a fumble and ran it back 17 yards
for a touchdown.
Before five more minutes had elapsed, Texas State converted two
turnovers into a pair of one-play touchdown drives on runs of 30
and 7 yards by Brothers.
McNeese easily outgained Texas State in total yards, 454-269,
only to see that advantage squandered by the turnovers.
Chris Thomas carried the ball 25 times for 188 yards for
McNeese, which rushed for 216 yards as a team. Chris Jones threw
for 129 yards but was intercepted twice, while Scott Pendarvis
threw for 55 yards and was intercepted once.
Texas State's Chase Wasson threw for only 106 yards on 10-of-17
passing, but did not throw any interceptions. He also had a scoring
pass of 10 yards to Markee White, followed by a 9-yard touchdown
run.
