JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Oscar Bonds ran for 186 yards and two
touchdowns to lead Jacksonville State to a 51-18 win over Samford
Bonds scored on runs of 1 and 79 yards as Jacksonville State ran
up 646 yards of total offense, including a school-record 453 yards
on the ground. Marcus Mitchell also scored twice for the Gamecocks,
while Taurean Rhetta and Maurice Mullins each had a touchdown.
Jacksonville State (7-1, 5-1 Ohio Valley Conference) took
control of the game early, scoring twice in the first four minutes
on Bonds' one-yard run and on a 75-yard punt return by Craig Agee.
Trailing by 17 points late in the first half, Samford (4-6, 3-4)
pulled to 20-11 at halftime when Jeff Moore caught a 13-yard pass
from Ray Nelson with 11 seconds to play in the half.
The Gamecocks pulled away in the third quarter, scoring on 3 and
11-yard runs by Mitchell and on Bonds 79-yard run. Jacksonville
State sealed the win in the fourth quarter with a 33-yard field
goal by Gavin Hallford and a 35-yard touchdown run by Rhetta.
