RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Stacy Tutt threw three touchdown passes and Lance Gray led a stingy Richmond defense as the Spiders defeated Towson 24-0 on Saturday.

Tutt connected on touchdown passes of 17 yards to Harry Wilson, 20 yards to Jake Schools and 8 yards to Brandon Neuman. Carter Ball added a 26-yard field goal.

Gray led the Spiders (3-6, 2-4 Atlantic 10) with 10 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

The Tigers (3-6, 0-6) drove 60 yards on their first possession, which ended when Gray recovered Josh Corle's fumble at the Richmond 5. Richmond's defense held the Tigers to 19 yards on 19 carries the remainder of the first half.

Tutt was 16-of-29 for 202 yards. Wilson caught five passes for 122 yards.

Richmond held Towson to 233 total yards, the Spiders' best effort of the season.

Freshman quarterback Anthony Melzi made his first start for Towson because starter Andrew Goldbeck was suspended for violating a team policy. Melzi was 19-of-42 for 137 yards and threw three interceptions.
