DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Connor Jostes threw a career-high five
touchdown passes to lead Drake to its seventh straight victory, a
45-27 win over Upper Iowa on Saturday.
Scott Phaydavong added 169 yards rushing in 26 carries for the
Bulldogs (8-2), who matched their longest winning streak since
finishing the 1995 season with seven straight wins.
Drake finishes the regular season against Waldorf next Saturday,
then meets Morehead State in the Pioneer Football League
championship game on Nov. 20.
Upper Iowa, which finished 2-8, stunned the Bulldogs with Jay
Lehman's 73-yard touchdown pass to Jess Montalto on the game's
first play. Drake answered with Michael Bialas' 1-yard TD run to go
up 7-6 and led the rest of the way.
Jostes threw two touchdown passes apiece to James Mickley and
Jason Jones and hit Tyler Putnam on a 59-yard scoring pass to make
it 28-13 midway through the second quarter. He finished 17 of 26
for 262 yards and no interceptions.
Montalto also caught touchdown passes of 9, 8 and 19 yards,
finishing with nine receptions for 172 yards.
Miami has lost running back Gus Edwards for the entire season because of a left foot injury.
