VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) -- Ryan Doerffler and Rob Giancola hooked
up for two scoring touchdowns, and Valparaiso held Aurora to just
12 yards passing as the Crusaders beat the Spartans 34-0 on
Doerffler finished just 8-of-19 passing for 150 yards and one
interception, but the two first-half scoring tosses helped
Valparaiso (5-6) to a 16-0 lead at the break.
The Crusaders did all the scoring in the second half as well,
including an 18-yard rushing TD by Patrick Cash and a 1-yard
scoring plunge by Alex Morrison, his only carry of the day.
Jeff Horton led the Crusaders in rushing with 91 yard on 16
carries and one TD.
Aurora (6-4) gained 167 yards on the ground, led by Daniel
Whalen, who gained 106 yards on 22 carries, and Travis Paro, who
had 76 yards on 18 carries.
But the Spartans could get nothing going through the air as
Andrew Hornung was 2-of-10 passing for 12 yards and one
Giancola finished the day with six receptions for 119 yeards and
the two scores.
Aurora also had a hard time holding onto the ball, fumbling four
times, all recovered by Valparaiso, leading to 13 points for the
Valparaiso was also able to overcome 11 penalties for 118 yards,
outgaining Aurora with 394 yards to 179 for the Spartans.
