SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Adam Martinez ran for a touchdown and
caught a scoring pass, and Anthony Garnett passed for 247 yards in
Cal Poly's 58-13 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday night.
Martinez scored on a one-yard run exactly one minute into the
game, then caught a 17-yard TD pass in the second quarter as Cal
Poly (9-2) built a 24-7 halftime lead.
The Mustangs, ranked 18th in Division I-AA, will learn Sunday if
they'll receive an at-large berth to the division's 16-team playoff
Fred Amey caught nine passes for 143 yards in the season finale
for Sacramento State (3-7), which made turnovers on two of its
first four plays to set up scores for the Mustangs.
Garnett, 12-of-24 in less than three quarters of work, had a
2-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter. Less than
two minutes later, safety Kenny Chicoine returned an interception
68 yards for a score.
Amey had 114 yards receiving by halftime, pushing the senior
over 4,000 yards in his career and into fourth place on the
Division I-AA career yardage list. Amey finished his career with
4,049 yards, leaving him 644 behind career leader Jerry Rice of
Mississippi Valley State.
Five of the Big 12's quarterback recruits are current or former ESPN 300 recruits, and Oklahoma in particular added some strength at the position.
