Delaware State 32, Howard 13

WASHINGTON (AP)-- Deon Rhuebottom scored on a 73-yard punt return and safety Jamel Trott returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown, capping a wild fourth quarter in Delaware State's 32-13 win over Howard Saturday.

The Hornets (4-7, 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) trailed 13-7 at the half and appeared on their way to letting the Bison (6-5, 3-4) extend their lead late in the third quarter. However, Delaware State defensive lineman Evan Lipford recovered Antoine Rutherford's fumble at the Hornets 47 to swing momentum the other way.

On the ensuing drive, Bryan Botts, who threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns, found Thomas Bolden with an 8-yard pass to give the Hornets a 14-13 lead.

Delaware State's offense never had to do much after that.

Rhuebottom's punt return came with 14:37 left in the fourth quarter, and Trott's interception pushed the lead to eight -- more than making up for the Hornets' failure to score from the 1 on fourth down on the previous possession.

The Hornets were given two more points on Howard's next possession when punter Noam Dror stepped out of the back of the end zone for a safety.

Jarhan Williams hauled in a 29-yard second-quarter pass from Marcus Moreno for Howard's only touchdown, which put the Bison ahead 10-7.

The Hornets scored their first touchdown on the first play of the second quarter, a 28-yard toss to Shaheer McBride.
