NEWARK, Del. (AP) -- Omar Cuff scored four touchdowns to help
Delaware beat Villanova 41-35 and claim a share of the Atlantic 10
Conference title on Saturday.
Cuff opened scoring with a 1-yard run five minutes into the game
on Delaware's first possession. Garron Bible's interception set up
a 21-play, 86-yard drive that resulted in a 26-yard field goal by
Brad Shushman. Cuff scored again from one-yard out to give the Hens
a 24-7 halftime lead.
Delaware (8-3, 7-1) built a 41-21 lead on Cuff's fourth
touchdown run of the day with 14:16 left to play, but Villanova
(6-5, 3-5) battled back, scoring three times in the final nine
minutes of the game.
Villanova's Marvin Burroughs completed 23 of his 40 passes for
334 yards. He followed a Villanova safety with an eight-yard
scoring toss to Curtis Waltman and ran two yards for a touchdown
himself to cut the lead to 41-35.
Burroughs launched one final pass, but Delaware's Kyle Campbell
intercepted it on the eight-yard line and returned it 40 yards to
end the game.
The victory earned the Hens their second consecutive berth in
the NCAA I-AA playoffs.
