Furman 51, UT-Chattanooga 31

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Cedrick Gipson ran for 104 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries as Furman earned the Southern Conference's automatic playoff bid with a 51-31 win over Chattanooga on Saturday.

The Paladins (9-2, 6-1 SoCon) ran for 342 yards, and Ingle Martin was 7-of-11 for 137 yards and two scores as Furman averaged better than eight yards a play.

Cedrick Stevens completed 21 of his 33 passes for 223 yards and Emanuel Hassell caught 11 passes for 108 yards for the Mocs (2-9, 2-5 SoCon), who have lost 10 in-a-row to the Paladins.

Chattanooga took a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter. But Furman would score 38 straight points over the next 30 minutes.

Roy Ravenell had six tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception for the Paladins.

Furman shares the SoCon title with Georgia Southern, but gets the automatic bid because they beat the Eagles. The Division I-AA playoff pairings will be announced Sunday.

Furman now has 12 league titles, most in the 81-year history of the conference.
