HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- Dustin Long threw for 255 yards and a
touchdown and ran for another score to lead Sam Houston State to a
27-9 win over Texas State on Saturday.
The win gives Sam Houston State a share of the Southland
Conference title with Northwestern State.
Sam Houston State (9-2, 4-1 Southland) led from the outset after
Long found Corey Roberts on an 8-yard touchdown pass in the first
Texas State (5-6, 3-2) cut the lead to 10-9 with 1:23 left in
the first half when John Tyson caught a 23-yard pass from Barrick
Nealy for a touchdown.
But then Long scored on a 2-yard run just seconds before
halftime to extend the lead to 17-9.
Jarrod Fuller had eight receptions for 111 yards and Jason
Godfrey rushed 21 times for 90 yards for the Bearkats.
Nealy was 7-of-10 for 84 yards with an interception and starting
quarterback Chase Wasson threw for just 19 yards and ran for 65.
