CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Duran Lawson threw three touchdown
passes and ran for another, and The Citadel beat Charleston
Southern 28-14 on Saturday night.
Lawson was 14 of 24 for 168 yards under first-year coach Kevin
Higgins' spread-option offense. Higgins spent the past four seasons
as an assistant for the Detroit Lions.
The Bulldogs (1-0) had 360 yards of offense, gaining 192 rushing
yards. It was their third straight victory over the Buccaneers
(0-1) since the series began in 2002.
Charleston Southern took the lead in the third quarter, but
couldn't hold on.
Lawson connected with Gary Domanski for a 37-yard score that
broke a 14-all tie in the third quarter. He also had a 33-yard TD
pass and a 5-yard scoring run.
