Holy Cross 48, Georgetown 6

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) -- John O'Neil completed 15 of 21 passes and two touchdowns and Gideon Akande scored three touchdowns as Holy Cross beat Georgetown 48-6 on Saturday.

Holy Cross (1-1, 1-0 Patriot League) led 28-0 at halftime limiting Georgetown (1-1) to two yards passing and 21 yards total offense for the half.

The Crusaders scored on their first two possessions. Steve Silva, who rushed for 110 yards, ran two yards for the first touchdown. Akande followed with another rushing touchdown, from two yards out.

In the second quarter, O'Neil threw touchdown passes to Sean Gruber and Akande, for a 28-0 halftime lead.

Akande scored his third touchdown on a one-yard run in the third quarter, capping a seven-play 30-yard drive. Crusader reserve quarterback Brian McSharry then completed an 8-yard scoring pass to Bob Turkovich to make it 42-0, with 14:14 left in the game.

Georgetown finally scored in the final 9:55 of the game. Emir Davis scored on a one-yard run to cap a 13-play 86-yard drive.

Holy Cross capped the scoring with 4:34 left when Terrance Gass scored on a one-yard rush.
