VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) -- Matt Dicken rushed for two touchdowns and
Villanova got a touchdown each from its defense and special teams
in a 38-20 win over Northeastern on Saturday night.
Darrel Young covered up a blocked punt in the end zone and Brian
Hulea recovered a fumble in the end zone for a pair of first-half
touchdowns for Villanova (1-1, 1-0 Atlantic 10). Dicken also scored
on a pair of 2-yard runs before the half as the Wildcats built a
26-10 lead at the break.
Adam James kicked a pair of field goals and Frank Jankowski
threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Anton Ridley in the second half
for the Wildcats.
Maurice Murray scored a pair of touchdowns and Miro Kesic kicked
two field goals for Northeastern (0-3, 0-1).
Jankowski -- replacing Marvin Burroughs, who is out for the year
with a broken arm sustained in last week's loss to Rutgers --
completed 16 of 25 passes for 241 yards with one interception.
Martin Gibson rushed for 80 yards on 15 carries while Dicken
picked up just 23 yards on 15 carries but scored twice.
Murray rushed for 80 yards and Anthony Orio threw for 133 yards
but was intercepted twice for Northeastern.
The game was delayed for an hour and 21 minutes in the second
quarter due to lightning.
