AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Brett Biggs scored on a 1-yard touchdown run
in overtime and Akron overcame Northern Illinois' comeback to win
48-42 Saturday night.
Akron (2-1, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) led 42-21 at the end of
the third quarter, but the Huskies tied it on Phil Horvath's three
The final one came on an 11-play, 96-yard drive in 1:37, capped
by Horvath's 24-yard pass to Britt Davis with :13 left.
Northern Illinois (1-3, 0-1) got the ball first in overtime and
failed to score when Horvath was intercepted by Dionte Henry. Akron
took possession and Luke Getsy completed a 23-yard pass to Biggs,
who scored from a yard out a play later for the win.
Getsy was 20 of 39 passing for 406 yards and five touchdowns,
including two to Jason Montgomery, who led Akron with 114 yards
Biggs rushed for 94 yards and had 73 yards receiving and a
Horvath was 39-of-52 for 486 yards and six touchdowns. Sam Hurd
finished with 139 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
The Zips trailed 14-0 early, but scored on five straight
possessions to lead 28-21 at the half.
Getsy's touchdowns throws included a 78-yarder to Montgomery and
a 79-yarder to Dennis Kennedy.
