SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Chris Hurd passed for 247 yards and two touchdowns and ran for one score to help Sacramento State defeat NAU on Saturday.

Down 10-3 at the half, Sacramento State (1-4) scored 35 points in the second half for the comeback victory and its first win of the season.

During the kickoff of the third quarter, the Hornets got a break when Torell Baker recovered a fumble by Tautua Reed on the Lumberjacks 23. Three plays later, quarterback Chris Hurd threw a 21-yard TD pass to Tommy Briggs.

The Hornets defense recovered another fumble on NAU's next possession, and capitalized on it two plays later when Hurd hit receiver Ryan Coogler for a 58-yard TD to give Sacramento State a 17-10 lead.

The Hornets, who had not scored in the third quarter all season, reached the end zone again when Hurd threw a 60-yard TD to running back Ryan Mole with 7:31 left.

The Lumberjacks (2-3) finally answered when Ryan Williams ran in for a 2-yard score after Kiel McDonald was called for passing interference. After Hurd ran for 39 yards to NAU's 23 in the last seconds of the third period, the Hornets quarterback ran for a 1-yard TD.

Late in the fourth period, Sacramento State defensive back Brent Webber intercepted Jason Murrietta, and then returned it for a 31-yard score.

Mahr caught his second TD, a 1-yard pass from Murrietta, with less than two minutes left in the game.

Mole rushed for 130 yards on 27 carries and caught three passes for 78 yards.

Murrietta was 30-for-53 for 347 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions for the Lumberjacks, who have lost eight consecutive road games dating back to 2003. NAU committed six turnovers in the game three interceptions and three lost fumbles.
