PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Nick Hartigan broke Brown's career
rushing record as the Bears defeated Fordham 37-14 on Saturday.
The senior running back gained 124 yards on 28 carries and
scored one touchdown.
Hartigan increased his career rushing total to 3,347 yards,
which surpassed the previous record of 3,266 set by Michael Malan
from 1999-2001. Hartigan's touchdown gave him 39 for his career
which tied Malan for another Brown record.
Brown (3-1) converted five turnovers by Fordham (0-5) into 20
points, including 10 during a 25-second span in the second quarter.
Brandon Markey recovered a fumbled punt, setting up a 30-yard
field goal by Steve Morgan that gave Brown a 17-7 lead.
Frank Nuzzo then intercepted a Derric Daniels pass, and on the
next play, Joe DiGiacomo threw a 34-yard scoring strike to Lonnie
Hill for a 24-7 lead at halftime.
DiGiacomo completed 13 of 21 passes for 213 yards and two
Morgan kicked three field goals, including a 48-yarder with
11:30 left in the fourth quarter.
Fordham's second score was early in the third quarter when
Daniels threw a 32-yard pass to Rashawn Haynes.
