LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) -- Chris Jones and Mark Fontenot threw for a
combined 218 yards to help lead McNeese State to a 33-23 victory
over Stephen F. Austin Saturday.
The game, orginially scheduled for Cowboy Stadium in Lake
Charles, was moved 70 miles east to the University of Louisiana at
Lafayette's Cajun Field after McNeese's campus suffered heavy
damage during Hurricane Rita. The players have been staying on the
campus of Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond for the past two weeks.
But the turmoil didn't seem to bother the Cowboys (3-1, 1-0
Southland), who held a 23-3 lead at the half. Jones finished the
day 7-of-16 for 106 yards and a touchdown while Fontenot finished
7-of-13 for 113 yards and a score.
SFA (4-2, 1-1) outgained McNeese in total offense 375-311 but
the Cowboys held a 234-161 edge in the first half.
Zeke Dixon ended the day 23-for-52 with 239 yards passing.
Dominique Edison led all receivers with six catches for 139 yards.
