CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Jerome Felton ran for three touchdowns, including the winning score in the third overtime as Furman beat The Citadel 39-31 on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (3-3, 1-2 Southern Conference) had a chance to send the game into a fourth overtime, but Kinta Palmer was ruled out of bounds on a fourth down catch in the end zone.
The Citadel led 21-7 at the start of the fourth quarter, but backup quarterback Renaldo Gray led the Paladins (6-1, 2-1) to two touchdowns, including Jerome Felton's 1-yard run with 48 seconds left that tied the game at 21.
The teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime and field goals in the second extra period.
Daric Carter led all rushers with 92 yards, while Felton ran for 55 yards and Justin Stepp had eight catches for 144 yards for Furman.
Paladins starter Ingle Martin was 15-of-30 for 182 yards and an interception before leaving the game at the end of the third quarter with cramps. The backup Gray went 4-for-11 for 77 yards and a touchdown and an interception.
Nuru Goodrum led The Citadel with 89 yards on 18 carries, while Justin Knox went 22-of-36 for 130 yards in his second collegiate start.
Furman gained 460 yards to the Bulldogs 270 yards. But the Paladins turned the ball over three times compared to no turnovers for The Citadel.
