SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) -- Cal Poly held Division II Fort Lewis to 79 total offensive yards as the Mustangs won their opener 44-0 Saturday.

Ernie Cooper rushed for touchdowns of 22 and 3 yards for Cal Poly in the first five minutes of the game. Teammate James Noble rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on nine carries for the Mustangs (1-0), ranked sixth in Division I-AA.

Matt Brennan and Fred Hives II added touchdown runs and Justin Belcher caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Brennan.

Brennan completed 9 of 14 passes for 89 yards in the first half. Fort Lewis (1-1), from Durango, Colo., didn't reach the 50-yard line until nine minutes left in the fourth quarter when backup quarterback Tom Stoffel broke into Cal Poly territory with a six-yard keeper. Stoffel replaced Matt Gutierrez who was injured on a pass play in the second quarter.
