PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Joe DiGiacomo passed for 206 yards and
two touchdowns Saturday as Brown beat Georgetown 34-21, as the
Bears matched a school record with their ninth consecutive victory
dating to last season.
Georgetown (1-2) scored its first first-quarter touchdown since
Nov. 20, 2004 against Holy Cross when Ben Hostetler threw a 38-yard
pass to Kenny Mitchell with 9:04 left in the quarter.
Brown (1-0) countered with 34 unanswered points. The Bears tied
the game at 7-7 on Brandon Markey's 3-yard run 1:28 into the second
DiGiacomo put Brown ahead for good when he threw a 7-yard
touchdown pass to Lonnie Hill, capping a 90-yard, 11-play drive.
DiGiacomo threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Colin Cloherty for a
20-7 lead just 33 seconds before halftime.
Jonathan May's interception on the first play of the third
quarter set up Akin Oyalowo's 1-yard run.
Backup quarterback Matt Nuzzo scored his first varsity touchdown
on a 27-yard run for a 34-7 lead.
Georgetown's Matt Bassuener threw a pair of touchdown passes in
the fourth quarter, 9 yards to Sidney Baker and 4 yards to
Mitchell. Bassuener finished 17 of 21 for 154 yards.
Zak DeOssie made 14 tackles to lead a Brown defense that held
Georgetown to 58 yards rushing.
