BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- John Stocco threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns and P.J. Hill ran for 129 yards and three scores as Wisconsin routed Indiana 52-17 on Saturday.

The Badgers (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) responded emphatically after last week's loss at Michigan with 390 yards and five TDs in seven first-half possessions. They finished with 539 total yards.

Indiana (2-3, 0-1) had hoped the return of coach Terry Hoeppner and receiver James Hardy, its top player, would help end a two-game losing streak. Hoeppner missed the last two weeks after having brain surgery Sept. 13, and Hardy returned after a two-game suspension.

But little changed for the Hoosiers.

Wisconsin's game plan was simple: Hill, who carried 23 times, softened up the Indiana defense, and Stocco took advantage by completing 15 of 17 passes and leading the Badgers to six touchdowns before departing.

By halftime, Indiana fans were leaving in large numbers.

Hill got things started, scoring on a 1-yard TD run late in the first quarter. Stocco followed that with a 35-yard TD pass to Travis Beckum and a 15-yard TD pass to Paul Hubbard. With 10:42 left in the half, the Badgers led 21-0.

Stocco connected with Andy Crooks on a 3-yard score, and Hill ran 1 yard for another TD before halftime to make it 35-0.

Stocco's 37-yard completion to Hill set up Hill's 1-yard plunge early in the third quarter, and after the Badgers kicked a 28-yard field goal, Wisconsin recovered a fumble deep in Indiana territory. Lance Smith scored on the next play, a 4-yard run, to make it 52-0.

The Hoosiers avoided their first shutout since October 2000 when Austin Starr kicked a 21-yard field goal with 9:54 left. Thirteen seconds later, Troy Grosfield made it 52-10 with a 15-yard fumble return for a TD. Indiana finally got an offensive TD with 3:25 left when Josiah Sears ran 8 yards.
