Vanderbilt 43, Temple 14

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Cassen Jackson-Garrison and Jared
Hawkins each ran for two touchdowns to help Vanderbilt rout Temple
43-14 on Saturday night.

The Commodores (2-3) rushed for 279 yards, led by
Jackson-Garrison's 142, and Chris Nickson completed nine of 20
passes for 162 yards and two TD passes to Steven Bright.

The Vanderbilt defense forced three turnovers and held the Owls
(0-5) to 270 yards.

Vanderbilt was on the verge of a 24-0 halftime lead after Brett
Upson's punt pinned the Owls at their own 22 with 23 seconds left.

But Temple's Adam DiMichele handed off to Tim Brown, who spun
through a host of Commodores defenders and dashed untouched down
the right sideline for a 78-yard scoring run as time expired. It
was the third-longest rushing play in Temple history.

Jackson-Garrison had first-half scoring runs of 43 and 16 yards,
and Chris Nickson threw a 30-yard touchdown to Bright. Vanderbilt's
Bryant Hahnfelt also added a 51-yard field goal in the first
quarter.

Temple tried to capitalize on the momentum of their second
quarter touchdown with an onside kick by Danny Murphy to open the
second half.

But Vanderbilt's Broderick Stewart recovered the ball at the
Commodore 48, starting a 5-play scoring drive capped by Jared
Hawkins' 13-yard touchdown run.

The Owls responded with a 15-play, 80-yard drive to cut the
Vanderbilt lead when DiMichele hit Marcus Brown with a 10-yard
touchdown pass. It was DiMichele's first career touchdown pass, and
Brown's first career touchdown reception.

But Vanderbilt answered with two quick scores in the game's next
3:05.

Nickson hit Bright for a 38-yard touchdown pass, and after
Temple fumbled on its own 16, Hawkins added an 8-yard scoring run
two plays later. Hahnfelt missed both extra points.
