BROOKLINE, Mass. (AP) -- Mat Johnson kicked a 35-yard field goal
as time expired as Northeastern ended a three-game losing streak
with a 27-24 win over Delaware on Saturday.
John Sperrazza passed for 272 yards and a touchdown while
Maurice Murray ran for 130 yards and a score for the Huskies (2-4,
1-2 Atlantic 10), who overcame a 17-10 halftime deficit.
Delaware (2-3, 1-2) tied the game at 24-24 with one minute to
play when Joe Flacco finished a 64-yard drive with a 9-yard
touchdown pass to Ben Patrick.
Sperrazza, who completed 17 of 32 passes, set up Johnson's field
goal by throwing for 50 yards and converting on a fourth-and-1 on a
quarterback sneak to bring the Huskies to the 18-yard line.
Sperrazza, making his first start of the season in place of the
injured Anthony Orio, threw a 23-yard pass to Kendrick Ballantyne
on third-and-22 from his own 38-yard line to set up Murray's
10-yard touchdown run with 3:28 to play for a 24-17 lead.
Flacco completed 24-of-41 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown.
But Delaware's running game stalled without leading rusher Omar
Cuff, who was out with an injured left ankle. Kervin Michaud ran
for 48 yards and Jared Bradley ran for two touchdowns.
