Tulane 38, Rice 24

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Lester Ricard threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns as Tulane beat Rice 38-24 on Saturday, winning its first game in the refurbished Louisiana Superdome since Hurricane Katrina.

Matt Forte ran for 178 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Green Wave, whose last victory in the Superdome was a 45-31 win against Army on Nov. 13, 2004.

Tulane (2-3 and 1-2 Conference USA) didn't play on its home field last season after Katrina ripped holes in the Superdome's massive roof and rendered the building unusable. The Green Wave returned to the Superdome last week but lost 33-28 to SMU.

Ricard was 21-of-40 and threw touchdown passes of 8 yards to Forte, 21 yards to Jeremy Williams, 27 yards to Brian King and 21 yards to Kenneth Guidroz.

Chase Clement led Rice (1-5, 0-3) with 271 yards passing and three touchdowns, including a 3-yard run in the first quarter.

Clement threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Joel Armstrong that put Rice within 31-24 late in the third, but the Green Wave extended their lead again on Ricard's touchdown to Forte with 12:22 left in the game.

Forte had 19 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run, and caught four passes for 57 yards. Richard threw three of his touchdowns in the first half.

Clement also threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jarett Dillard for Rice.
