PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Joe DiGiacomo threw two touchdown passes
and ran for one to lift Brown to a 28-7 win over Cornell on
Brown (2-4, 1-2 Ivy League) opened the scoring on its first
possession when DiGiacomo found Colin Cloherty on a 51-yard
touchdown pass with 8:51 remaining in the first quarter.
DiGiacomo completed 17 of 27 passes for 183 yards.
Cornell (2-4, 0-3) countered with 7:26 left in the first half
when Nathan Ford hit Jesse Baker with a 12-yard scoring strike to
cap a seven-play, 36-yard drive and make it 7-7 at halftime.
Brown went ahead to stay when Cloherty grabbed his second
scoring pass of the day, a 13-yard reception from DiGiacomo with
10:04 left in the third. Cloherty finished with six catches for 94
yards. Dereck Knight paced the Bears with 96 rushing yards on 11
DiGiacomo capped a 10-play 53-yard drive in the fourth quarter
when he plunged over from three yards out, giving Brown a 21-7
The Bears added a late touchdown linebacker when James Tull
recovered a fumble in the end zone.
Brown's defense, led by linebacker Zak DeOssie's 14 tackles,
held Cornell to 193 yards of total offense. The Big Red entered the
game averaging 382 yards per game on offense.
