DURHAM, N.H. (AP) -Chris Ward's 13-yard touchdown run in the first quarter gave New Hampshire the margin it needed in a 10-6 victory in the rain Saturday over Hofstra.
New Hampshire (6-2, 3-2 Atlantic 10) added a 20-yard field goal early in the third quarter after a 30-yard punt return gave the Wildcats possession on the 18. UNH advanced the ball to the 4 but couldn't push it in for the touchdown. Tom Bishop's field goal gave the Wildcats a 10-0 lead.
Hofstra (2-6, 1-4) got on the board late in the fourth quarter after a blocked punt gave the Pride possession at the UNH 30. Davis connected with Smith to the 3. Davis connected again with Smith on the next play for the touchdown. Hofstra missed the point after due to a mishandled snap.
Both teams also missed field goal attempts.
Wildcat Tom Manning's 40-yard try sailed wide on UNH's second possession. The Pride's Rob Zarrilli lined up for a 45-yard attempt late in the first half but a bad snap prevented the kick and UNH took over on downs.
