RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Justin Rascati ran for one touchdown and
passed for one Saturday, and Kevin Winston returned a fumble for a
touchdown, leading No. 5 James Madison to a win over No. 13
The Dukes (7-1, 5-0 Atlantic 10) took advantage of several poor
punts by Richmond's Brian Radford. In the first quarter, following
a 26-yard punt, Madison scored on a two-yard Rascati run, capping
an 11-play, 51-yard drive that was highlighted by Rascati's 22-yard
After Winston partially blocked a punt, David Rabil increased
the lead to 10-0 with a 37-yard field goal. The Spiders cut the
lead to 10-7 early in the second quarter, on a 7-yard pass from
Eric Ward to Matt Hale.
Later in the second quarter, Ward was sacked by Akeem Jordan and
fumbled with Winston picking the ball up and returning it 38 yards
to give Madison a 17-7 lead.
The Spiders cut the lead to 17-10 on Andrew Howard's 45-yard
field goal with 1:06 remaining in the half.
In the fourth quarter, Rascati threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to
L.C. Baker. It was Rascati's 42nd career touchdown pass, tying him
with Madison. Rabil wrapped up the scoring with a 21-yard field
goal with 2:52 remaining.
Rascati completed 12 of 16 passes for 137 yards.
