BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Lee Sweeney threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to lead Tennessee Tech to a 20-14 win over Samford.

Tennessee Tech (3-6, 3-3 Ohio Valley Conference) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win, while Samford (3-7, 1-6) lost its final home game of the season.

The Golden Eagles scored first with a 28-yard field goal from Nate Johnson, but Samford answered when Jeff Moore returned a punt for 62 yards to put the Bulldogs ahead 7-3.

Johnson kicked another Tennessee Tech field goal early in the second and Byron Ottrix scored on a 13-yard pass from Sweeney.

Leading 13-7 in the third quarter, the Golden Eagles moved 71 yards in four plays with Sweeney hitting Larry Shipp down the middle for a 57-yard score. It was Shipp's sixth TD catch of the season and Sweeney's 12th scoring pass in his rookie season.

Derek White and Anthony Ash each rushed for more than 100 yards for Tennessee Tech and Shipp had 121 receiving yards.

Samford tried to come back in the fourth, with a 12-yard touchdown by Justin Ray putting them within six points, but they could get no closer.

Alex Mortensen was 14-of-26 for 88 yards. He was sacked once.
