SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Kevin O'Connell completed all seven of his passes and rushed for a touchdown as he led San Diego State to a 21-7 victory over UNLV Saturday night.

The Aztecs (2-7, 2-3 Mountain West) jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when defensive back Ray Bass picked off a Rocky Hinds pass and raced untouched 49 yards for a touchdown 5:15 into the game.

O'Connell, who replaced Aztecs starting quarterback Kevin Craft in the second quarter, scored the game's second TD on a 1-yard keeper on fourth down with 3:45 left in the first half as San Diego State went up 14-0.

The touchdown capped an 80-yard, 15-play drive that featured a booth replay reversal on what was first ruled a fumble by Atiyya Henderson and a pass interference call on UNLV.

The Rebels (1-9, 0-6) have lost nine straight overall and 15 straight road games.

UNLV place-kicker Sergio Aguayo missed five field goal attempts.

After missing from 41 and 37 yards in the second quarter, Aguayo had a third field goal attempt bounce off the cross bar from 52 yards out with 22 seconds left in the half.

He then had a 53-yarder fall short early in the third quarter, and his fifth attempt, from 28 yards, was blocked by the Aztecs' Antwan Applewhite midway through the third quarter.

The Rebels made it 14-7 on the first play of the fourth quarter when Hinds connected with Aaron Straiten on a 2-yard pass on fourth down.

Hinds was 20-for-39 for 211 yards on the night and threw two interceptions.

San Diego State came back and took a 21-7 lead when O'Connell, again replacing Craft who started the second half, directed an eight-play, 74-yard drive that was capped by Brandon Borne's 9-yard touchdown run with 10:56 left in the game.
