VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) -- DeQuese May scored on a 16-yard run with
1:21 left to lift Villanova to a 21-20 upset win over James Madison
Matt Dicken added two touchdown runs for the Wildcats (5-5, 4-3
Atlantic 10), who forced two key fumbles -- including one at the end
of a punt return that put the Dukes deep in Villanova territory.
On Villanova's game-winning drive, the Wildcats were pushed back
to their own 10-yard line on a holding penalty, but Marvin
Burroughs completed passes of 20, 27 and 18 yards to set up May's
go-ahead scoring run.
Two costly errors on punt returns -- a fumble and a penalty --
helped Villanova stay in the game. L.C. Baker fumbled at the end of
a 56-yard punt return that Villanova recovered at its own 6-yard
line. And an illegal block nullified what would have been a
touchdown on another return. A fumble by Rascati ended another
fourth quarter drive at the Villanova 21.
David Rabil kicked a pair of 34-yard field goals for the Dukes,
who outgained Villanova 320-277.
