PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) -- Chris Wallace threw three touchdown passes Saturday in a 42-31 victory by Arkansas-Pine Bluff over Texas Southern.
Dedrick Poole caught three passes for scores, but one of them came late in the game from Wallace's backup, Johnathan Moore, who also later threw another scoring pass.
Texas Southern (3-8, 3-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) scored first, on a 29-yard pass play from Tino Edgecombe to Daniel Davis, but Wallace evened the score with a TD pass to Poole from 23 yards out.
The Tigers went back ahead on a pass from Edgecombe to J. Fonua.
UAPB (8-3, 7-2) tied it up again on another Wallace-to-Poole pass, from 18 yards out, early in the second quarter. Texas Southern took its last lead when D'Javan Conway kicked a 42-yard field goal, but that margin was erased when Martell Mallett scored for the Golden Lions on a 17-yard run.
Wallace threw his third pass for a TD to Jason Jones, on a play that went 20 yards, with 1:34 left before intermission to give UAPB a 28-17 lead at the half.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter, with Moore passing 9 yards to Poole for one score for the Lions and to Jones for the other on a play that went 76 yards.
The Tigers' scores in the final period came on a pair of passes by backup quarterback Donnie Shorts, one of 7 yards to Osborne William and the other to Brian Haith from the Tigers' own 24.
The Golden Lions, winners of SWAC's Western Division, will play Alabama A&M on Dec. 16 in Birmingham, Ala., for the conference championship. UAPB beat the Bulldogs 23-21 in October.
