ELON, N.C. (AP) -- Andre Roberts caught an 80-yard touchdown pass
from Duran Lawson to highlight a 44-7 victory for The Citadel over
Elon on Saturday.
Lawson went 14-for-18, passing for 223 yards and two touchdowns
and recording 71 rushing yards. His pass to Roberts, as well as a
7-yard TD pass to Derek Moore in the second quarter, helped put the
Bulldogs ahead of Elon 23-0 at halftime.
Nuru Goodrum ran for three short Bulldog touchdowns, including
two in the third quarter that made the score 37-0.
Terrell Hudgins answered for Elon by catching a 14-yard TD pass
from Wes Pope with 14:02 left in the fourth quarter, but The
Citadel sealed its win on a 5-yard TD run by Montrell Lee.
Tory Cooper ran 109 yards for the Bulldogs and Roberts tallied
123 receiving yards.
Pope passed for 279 yards for the Phoenix, but threw two
interceptions and was sacked four times by the Bulldog defense.
Hudgins caught for 159 yards and receiver Michael Mayers had 107
The Bulldogs' James Wilson intercepted one of Pope's passes,
returning it for 49 yards.
Corey Weaver had 11 tackles and Chad Nkang added nine for the
The Citadel recorded 450 total offensive yards to Elon's 326.
