WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Curtis Painter passed for 260 yards and a touchdown and overcame four interceptions to lead Purdue to a 28-19 win over Indiana on Saturday in the Old Oaken Bucket game.

Purdue's victory eliminated Indiana from bowl contention.

Greg Orton caught six passes for 112 yards and Dorien Bryant caught five passes for 74 yards and ran for a score for Purdue (8-4, 5-3 Big Ten). The Boilermakers finished in a tie for fourth place in the conference.

Kellen Lewis passed for 290 yards and a touchdown and ran for 103 and a score, and James Hardy caught nine passes for 151 yards and a touchdown for Indiana (5-7, 3-5). The Hoosiers gained 505 yards, but scored just two touchdowns.

Indiana responded with a six-play, 74-yard scoring drive. A 28-yard pass from Lewis to Hardy moved the ball to the Purdue 25, and two plays later, Lewis ran 15 yards for a touchdown to cut Purdue's lead to 14-10 with 6:56 left in the third quarter.

Purdue came back with a nine-play, 80-yard scoring drive. Kory Sheets scored on a 2-yard run to give Purdue a 21-10 lead with 2:45 left in the third quarter.

Indiana got the ball back after Painter's fourth interception, and a 53-yard run by Demetrius McCray set up a first-and-goal from the 2. Purdue forced a fourth-and-goal from the 7, but Lewis found Hardy in the middle of the end zone for a score to cut Purdue's lead to 21-19. The Boilermakers stopped Lewis on a quarterback draw on the 2-point conversion attempt.

Purdue's nine-play, 76-yard scoring drive put the game out of reach. Bryant scored on a 15-yard run to give the Boilermakers a 28-19 lead with 5:06 to play.
