LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -- DeBrian Holmes ran for three touchdowns and Jake Phillips threw for three more to lead William & Mary to a 63-16 win over VMI on Saturday 85th meeting in the rivalry.
While each team totaled 249 yards rushing, the Tribe's 275 yards in the air helped William & Mary (1-1) secure its 22nd consecutive win in the series. The Keydets (1-1) were held to 271 total yards of offense compared to William & Mary's 524.
VMI made its way onto the scoreboard first quarter with a 24-yard field goal by Patrick Sweeney, but trailed 7-3 midway through the first after an 8-yard TD run by Holmes and never regained the lead.
Courtland Marriner, who had a 10-yard TD run in the third, led the Tribe with 107 yards rushing. Tony Viola ran for 56 yards and one touchdown, and Tony Schonder ran for 45 yards and one touchdown. Holmes ran for 42 yards.
Phillips went 13-of-15 for 242 yards for William & Mary.
Howard Abegash led the Keydets with 80 yards rushing and one touchdown. Nat Jackson ran for 34 yards and one touchdown.
