OXFORD, Ohio (AP) -- Sophomore Marshawn Gilyard blocked a punt for a safety and caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter and Dustin Grutza threw for two scores to spark Cincinnati to a 47-10 win over Miami (Ohio) Saturday afternoon.

Grutza, starting in place of the injured Ben Mauk, threw both touchdown passes in the first half as the Bearcats (3-0) opened up a 26-3 lead in the 112th meeting between the two teams -- the oldest rivalry west of the Alleghenies. Mauk, a transfer from Wake Forest who started Cincinnati's first two games, was sidelined with a sore arm.

Grutza, who spent most of the fourth quarter on the sideline, finished 25-for-35 passing for 290 yards.

Doug Jones ran 5 yards for a touchdown and DeAngelo Smith returned an interception 54 yards for a score in the fourth quarter. Bradley Glatthaar's 5-yard touchdown run late in the game gave the Bearcats their largest win in the series since a 44-0 victory in 1940.

Miami quarterback Mike Kokal fumbled trying to pass on the RedHawks' first play of the game. Anthony Hoke recovered for the Bearcats, who converted on Butler Benton's 2-yard plunge.

Gilyard blocked a punt out of the Miami end zone for a safety to give Cincinnati a 9-0 lead. After Miami's free kick, Gilyard capped a seven-play, 55-yard drive by catching Grutza's 6-yard scoring pass.

Miami (1-2) snapped Cincinnati's streak of consecutive quarters without allowing a touchdown at 10 on Daniel Raudabaugh's 16-yard touchdown pass to Armand Robinson in the third quarter. The streak dated back to the fourth quarter of last season's 27-24 International Bowl win over Western Michigan.

Besides a fumble, three interceptions and a blocked punt, the UC defense compiled five sacks.
