PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) -- Chris Mitchell threw his second scoring pass of the game with 41 seconds left to give Alabama State a 12-10 win Saturday night over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Hornets (3-0, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) led 6-0 at the half after Mitchell connected with Daius Mathis on an 11-yard pass play with just 18 seconds left before intermission.
Mitchell finished with 175 yards passing, going 16-for-27 with one interception.
After a scoreless third quarter, UAPB (1-2, 1-2) fought back in the final period. John Heflin kicked a 26-yard field goal and Jonathan Moore scored on a 7-yard run with 9:10 remaining to give the Golden Lions a 10-6 lead.
But Mitchell got the Hornets back within scoring range, then put the game away when he connected with Fred Ragsdale on a pass from 10 yards out.
Jay Peck led all rushers with 129 yards on 35 carries.
