WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Jake Phillips passed for 335 yards and three touchdowns and scored from the one-yard line in the second overtime to lead William and Mary over Liberty 48-41 on Saturday.
DeBrian Holmes rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns to help the Tribe (2-1) hold off the Flames (2-1), which outscored William & Mary 21-17 in the second half to tie the game at the end of regulation.
Brock Smith connected with Dominic Bolden in the third quarter for a 13-yard score, then hit Rashad Jennings with a 12-yard strike in the fourth quarter. With 16 seconds left in regulation, Zach Terrell scored on a three-yard run to tie the game 34-34.
Jennings put Liberty up 41-34 with a 25-yard run in the first overtime.
Phillips connected with Drew Atchison with a 15-yard strike to tie the game, then sealed the win in the second overtime with the one-yard run.
Phillips was 20-of-28 with Atchison, his primary target, finishing with 103 yards.
For Liberty, Brock Smith was 25-of-37, with two TDs and two interceptions. Jennings finished with 114 yards on 28 carries.
