MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- Cole Bergquist passed for a career high 283 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 89 yards and another score to lead Montana to a 35-14 win over Albany Saturday.
Lex Hilliard rushed 21 times for 136 yards and two more scores for the Grizzlies (3-0), ranked second in the Football Championship Subdivision polls.
Montana scored on three consecutive running touchdowns to take a 28-7 lead on a 26-yard scoring run by Hilliard with 9:56 remaining.
Albany (1-3) drove 64 yards in 10 plays, recovering their own fumble at one point, and pulled to 28-14 on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Vinny Esposito to Jason Smith on a 3rd-and-17 play with 6:43 remaining.
The Great Danes recovered an onside kick at the Montana 43 and drove to the 24 before Jeremy Pate intercepted Esposito at the 16-yard line. He returned the ball to the 25 before fumbling it. Sean Schillinger recovered it for the Grizzlies on their own 29.
Montana sealed the win with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Berguist to Eric Allen with 1:51 remaining. Allen had four catches for 85 yards.
Albany's opening drive ended with a missed field goal.
The Grizzlies scored first on a 12-yard pass from Bergquist to Ryan Bagley in the first quarter. Albany answered in the second with a 1-yard run by Omar Johnson midway through the second quarter.
Hilliard scored on a 1-yard run late in the half and Bergquist broke free on a 55-yard scoring run with 10:03 left in the third quarter to give Montana a 21-7 lead.
Esposito completed 20 of 40 passes for 273 yards to 10 different receivers, but Albany rushed for just 92 yards. Montana had 283 yards passing and 281 rushing.
