CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) -- Mike Malone ran 4 yards for a touchdown with 9:47 left to break a tie and help Western Carolina break a 12-game losing streak with a 33-20 victory over Presbyterian Saturday night.
The Blue Hose tied the score at the start of the fourth quarter on Terrance Butler's 7-yard run. He caught a conversion pass from Tim Webb to tie the game at 20.
Malone's touchdown capped a 45-yard drive ignited by a short Presbyterian kickoff and a 23-yard kickoff return by Marcus Brown. Stephen Brown's 2-point conversion pass failed.
Western Carolina (1-3) sealed the game with a 6 minute, 14 second drive ending in Todd Spitzer's 1-yard run with 49 seconds left to play. The Catamounts converted three third-down plays to keep the 66-yard drive alive.
Cam Miller kicked field goals of 20 and 35 yards for Presbyterian (1-3).
