AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) -- James Starks ran 36 times for a 183 yards and two touchdowns, including a 72 yard score, as Buffalo defeated Ohio 31-10 Saturday.

The Bulls (2-4, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) racked up 397 yards of total offense, and also got rushing touchdowns from Brandon Thermilus and quarterback Drew Willy.

Willy was 10-of-19 passing for 118 yards in the Bulls' first win over a defending MAC East champion.

Ohio (2-4, 0-2 MAC) never quite got its offense on track. Kalvin McRae rushed 24 times for 96 yards and a touchdown, but neither quarterbacks Brad Bower (12-for-24, 93 yards) nor Theo Scott (11-for-17, 93 yards) were effective. Both were intercepted once and sacked once.

Buffalo led 14-7 at halftime. Starks had 71 yards on 18 carries in the first half. He scored the Bulls' first points on a 1-yard dive in the first quarter, rushing nine times on a 10-play drive.

Ohio answered with McRae scoring from 4 yards to cap a 12-play, 64-yard drive. Bower kept that drive alive with an 18-yard completion to Chido Nwokocha after his pass to Taylor Price for 26 yards was wiped out by a holding penalty.

Ohio's Michael Braunstein extended the nation's longest active field-goal made streak to 17, kicking a 26-yarder with 7:11 left in the third quarter.
