ORONO, Maine (AP) -- Jake Phillips passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns, engineering two second-half scoring drives that carried William & Mary to a 21-20 victory over Maine on Saturday.
Phillips completed two scoring passes to Cameron Dohse, who made seven receptions for 123 yards. The first was a 31-yarder that put the Tribe (4-3) on the scoreboard late in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 14-7. The second was a 33-yarder off a ball tipped by a defender that finished off an 89-yard march and made it 14-14 late in the third quarter.
The Tribe took the lead for good on Tony Viola's 3-yard run that capped a 90-yard drive early in the fourth quarter.
Maine (1-5) countered with Bobby Donnelly field goals of 32 and 34 yards, the second with 3:53 to play, but the Black Bears were unable to keep William & Mary from running out the clock.
Josh Rutter paced the Tribe's defense with 10 tackles, while John Wormuth's 14 tackles led the Black Bears.
