SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) -- Steve Walker threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Kole Heckendorf with 38 seconds left in the game to complete a furious fourth-quarter rally Saturday that gave North Dakota State a 31-28 victory over Cal Poly.
Down 28-9 in the fourth quarter, North Dakota State (10-0, 3-0 Great West Conference) scored three touchdowns in the final 10 minutes to stay undefeated.
Walker connected on a 67-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Shultenover and Tyler Roehl ran for a 4-yard TD to set up Walker's game-winning pass to Heckendorf.
The three touchdown drives took a total of just eight plays. The Bison had managed only three Shawn Bibeau field goals in the first three quarters.
Cal Poly (6-4, 2-2) would get only to the North Dakota State 43 as time ran out.
Walker completed 14 of 30 for 342 yards and the two touchdowns.
Roehl ran for 100 yards on 22 carries and had four catches for 38 yards.
Jonathan Dally connected on 14 of 23 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns for Cal Poly, but was intercepted twice, both times by Kyle Belmont, after throwing just one interception all season coming into the game.
Dally also ran for 122 yards.
The Mustangs scored on a 10-yard pass from Dally to Ramses Barden and David Fullerton intercepted a Walker pass for another touchdown, giving Cal Poly a 28-9 fourth-quarter lead.
