SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Sacramento State freshman running back Bryan Hilliard rushed for 243 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-30 victory over Idaho State on Saturday.
Junior running back Travon Jones also rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns for the Hornets (3-8, 3-5 Big Sky), who ended the season with a two-game winning streak.
Russel Hill threw for 376 yards and one touchdown and Eddie Thompson caught nine passes for 98 yards and one TD for the Bengals (2-9, 2-6 Big Sky), who have lost their last four games.
Hilliard scored two rushing TDs in the first quarter, and Jones scored another on the ground in the second quarter to give Sac State a 21-14 halftime margin. Hilliard rushed for 134 yards on 23 carries in the first half.
After Branden Jones kicked a 46-yard field goal for the Bengals to make the score 21-17, ISU had a chance to take the lead. But Hill threw an interception to senior defensive back Jody Jones in the end zone with 22 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
The Hornets increased their lead 35-17 on a 26-yard TD catch by Tyler Fannuchiand and a 19-yard touchdown run by Jones four minutes later in the fourth quarter.
The Bengals scored again, but Hilliard answered, scoring his last rushing touchdown with 1:34 remaining.
Senior running back Josh Barnett rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns for Idaho State. Barnett ended his career as ISU's all-time rushing leader with 3,415 yards.
