PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Kordell Young rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown and Connecticut kicker Tony Ciaravino's 42-yard field goal attempt hit the right upright with 1:09 remaining as Rutgers escaped with a 12-10 win over the Huskies on Saturday.

UConn (5-2, 1-1) dropped its second straight game after Ciaravino missed three field goals in the game. He was 8-for-11 on the season before Saturday.

The win was the first for Rutgers (2-5, 1-2) against a Bowl Subdivision opponent this year.

Donald Brown, the nation's leading rusher at 177.8 yards, ran for 106 yards but was held to just six on 11 carries after halftime.

Trailing 12-10, Zach Frazer drove UConn from its 15 to the Rutgers 20, but an offensive pass interference call negated a completion to Kashif Moore and pushed the Huskies back to the 35.

Martin Bedard's reception put it at the 25, but Ciaravino's kick into the wind hit the upright and bounced off to the side.

Frazer, starting his second straight game in place of injured Tyler Lorenzen, was 14-for-20 for 236 yards, and pulled the Huskies within 12-10 with a 47-yard touchdown pass to Moore with 8:33 left.

Struggling Rutgers quarterback Mike Teel, who was replaced for one series and several other plays by back-up Dom Natale, was 15-for-28 for 162 yards and Kenny Britt had eight catches for 93 yards.

Rutgers' Teddy Dellaganna averaged 41.7 yards on seven punts, and he pinned UConn inside the 5-yard line twice in the second half and inside the 20 four times.

It was the Knights' kicking game that helped them to a 12-3 lead in the third quarter.

On the second-half kickoff, Rutgers tackled Robbie Frey at the 1-yard line and forced a punt from the four. The Scarlet Knights took over at the UConn 37 and five plays later Young scored the game's first touchdown on a 6-yard run to make it 10-3.

Dellaganna's next two punts pinned UConn at its 3-yard line and 2-yard line, respectively. After the second punt, Brown was tackled in the end zone for a safety by Blair Bines.

Neither team could find the end zone in a first half that included five field goal attempts.

UConn took a 3-0 lead on Ciaravino's 19-yard field goal, which was set up by Cody Brown's blocked punt. The Huskies' last blocked punt came on last Nov. 7 last year against Rutgers.

Rutgers countered with an 18-yard field goal by San San Te, which they were forced to settle for after three Young rushes from the 3-yard line netted just two yards.

Ciaravino was then wide left on a 43-yard field goal attempt and hit the right upright on a 25-yard try. Te was wide left on a 42-yarder.
