DEKALB, Ill. -- Junior Mike Salerno kicked a 30-yard field goal with 12 seconds to play on Saturday to lift Northern Illinois to a 16-13 victory over Bowling Green.

Salerno converted on three of four field goal tries for the day as the Huskies (5-3, 4-1 Mid-American) won their third straight and fifth in their last six games.

The Falcons (3-5, 1-3 Mid-American) led 13-10 late in the third quarter following an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Sheehan to wide receiver Marques Parks.

Salerno forced a 13-13 tie with 8:08 left in regulation with a 25-yard field goal. He got his final chance when defender Landon Cox blocked Nick Iovinelli's punt and set up the Huskies at the Falcon 37 with 4:51 to play.

Northern Illinois chewed up more than four minutes and advanced 24 yards in seven plays to set up Salerno's game-winning try.

Chandler Harnish rushed 19 times for 116 yards to become the first Huskie quarterback with 100 or more rushing yards since 1990. Tailback Me'co Brown added 95 yards on 20 carries.

Sheehan was 15-of-21 yard 92 yards while Corey Partridge caught six passes for 21 yards. Tailback Anthony Turner rushed 10 times for a team-high 39 yards.

Bowling Green kicker Sinisa Vrvilo hit field first half field goals of 29 and 20 yards as the Falcons opened a 6-3 halftime lead.

Salerno tied a school record with his career-best 52-yard field goal early in the opening quarter. A 49-yard try just before halftime went wide left.
