ALBANY, N.Y. -- Vinny Esposito threw for 107 yards and a touchdown, and added two more scores on the ground, and Albany, N.Y., beat Monmouth, N.J., 35-17 on Saturday.
David McCarty added 208 rushing yards and a touchdown for Albany, which also got two touchdowns from receiver Tim Bush.
Monmouth (5-4, 4-1 Northeast Conference) took a 14-0 lead into the second half but was held to one field goal in the second while Albany (6-3, 5-0 NEC) scored five unanswered touchdowns.
Albany tied it at 14 on a pair of scores by Bush in the third quarter, including a 17-yard run off a reverse handoff. Esposito then scrambled in from a yard out five seconds into the fourth quarter, giving the Great Danes a 21-17 lead that they would not relinquish.
The Hawks took the lead 5:14 into the game when Brett Burke found Nick Romeo for a 21-yard touchdown strike. A similar play put Monmouth ahead by two touchdowns five minutes into the second quarter when Burke hit John Nalbone in the end zone from 15 yards out.
