NEWARK, Del. -- Aaron Ball ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns to lead Villanova to a 21-7 victory over Delaware on Saturday.
Villanova (9-2, 7-1 Colonial Athletic Association), which outgained the Blue Hens 377-175, finished with its first nine-victory season since winning a school-record 12 games in 1997.
Villanova ran for 317 yards behind Ball, Chris Whitney (23 carries, 102 yards) and Matthew Szczur (13 carries, 96 yards).
Villanova scored twice in the final 7 minutes of the second quarter to take control.
Whitney's 1-yard touchdown run capped a 10-play, 65-yard drive.
Then, after the Wildcats stopped the Blue Hens (4-8, 2-6) on a fourth-and-1 at their 40, Ball broke off a 51-yard touchdown run to give Villanova a 14-0 advantage.
Ball added a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, finishing a seven-play, 62-yard drive.
After setting school records with only 53 yards and three first downs in a loss to Richmond last week, Delaware avoided being shut out at home for the first time since 1983 when Robby Schoenhoft hit Martwain Johnston on a 34-yard scoring pass with 7:51 remaining.
Schoenhoft came off the bench to go 8 of 19 for 115 yards.
Delaware finished with the first eight-loss season in school history.
